Abstract

Against the backdrop of the demands and challenges of economic development on classical gardens in Jiangnan, this study aims to investigate the deficiencies of the current laws on classical gardens in Jiangnan and identify solutions to improve them. It is found that there needs to be more specific laws to protect classical gardens in Jiangnan, an imbalance between public and private interests, and a need for regional characteristics in the local laws. The paper also explores ways to address these shortcomings through case studies. This paper will therefore analyse the conservation of classical gardens in Jiangnan from a different legislative perspective than the conventional one, namely the aesthetic value of these gardens.
