As poverty reforms deepen, the issue of urban households on the edge of subsistence allowance in China has become increasingly pronounced. Based on the five reports from the China Family Panel Studies conducted in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020, this study employs the Alkire-Foster (AF) method to measure the multidimensional marginal status of urban households on the edge of subsistence allowance across four dimensions, including material well-being, education, health, and social security. Furthermore, it decomposes the multidimensional marginal index to further understand the factors influencing the multidimensional marginal status of urban households on the edge of subsistence allowance. The research findings indicate the following: the construction of a multidimensional measurement framework for urban households on the edge of subsistence allowance is rational; the incidence of multidimensional marginality is decreasing; and the education dimension has the greatest impact on the multidimensional marginal status.
