Enhancing the performance of electric vehicles (EVs) necessitates a strategic approach to managing the power battery system, with a pivotal focus on the Battery Thermal Management System (BTMS). Proper functioning and longevity of BTMS are critical for ensuring the safety and operational efficiency of EVs. The crux of battery safety lies in managing heat and temperature; an inability to adequately dissipate heat can lead to excessive temperatures, precipitating rapid degradation of battery performance, diminished lifespan, and potentially triggering thermal runaway—a severe risk to both personal and property safety. This paper delves into the current developmental status and research advancements in the thermal management systems of power batteries for new energy vehicles. It presents a comprehensive design of the BTMS, examining its distinctive features. Building on this analysis, the paper proposes optimization strategies for the BTMS's control mechanisms. This research contributes significantly to the field of battery thermal management, offering insights that are pivotal for the advancement of thermal regulation technologies in electric vehicles.
