Based on data from 11 provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2013 to 2022, this paper measures the modernization progress of material and spiritual civilization and their degree of coordinated development. The Dagum Gini coefficient and kernel density estimation are used to analyze regional differences and dynamic trends, while structural equation modeling and a spatial Markov chain model are employed to explore impact paths and development transitions. The results indicate steady improvements in various indices across the Yangtze River Economic Belt, with decreasing inequality, though regional disparities remain significant and the trend of polarization intensifies. Technological innovation has promoted cultural life and social progress, and although there is a phenomenon of status lock-in, there is potential for modest improvements. This research provides theoretical support and policy recommendations for the coordinated development of material and spiritual civilization.
