Abstract

Coalbed methane (CBM), an unconventional natural gas resource, has gained significant attention as an alternative energy source. This paper reviews the extraction techniques, challenges, and environmental impacts associated with CBM production. The primary methods include dewatering, hydraulic fracturing, and enhanced coalbed methane recovery (ECBM). Despite its potential, CBM extraction faces technical, economic, and environmental challenges, such as water management and greenhouse gas emissions. Sustainable practices and technological advancements are crucial for optimizing CBM production while minimizing ecological disturbances.
