Abstract

This report outlines the design of an English proficiency test aimed at assessing the intermediate English skills of international adult students at the University Preparation College (UPC), Sydney City Campus. The test measures four key language skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Each skill is evaluated through carefully constructed test components to determine the learners' language competence and readiness for university studies in Sydney. The report also discusses the theoretical underpinnings of test validity and reliability, as well as the positive educational impacts of such tests. The rationale behind the test design, including the choice of tasks and their alignment with real-life communication needs, is thoroughly elaborated, providing insights into the purpose and methodology of English proficiency testing.
