Abstract

In a rapidly aging society, such an issue as the aging population deserves the attention and concern. This research in order to conduct a comparative analysis between China and Japan to compare their retirement system and policies to fill in the gap that not too much previous research has focused on regarding the differentiation of retirement systems among these two East-Asian countries--although they have a huge difference on their national status and the ways to manage their vast aging population numbers. In the end, this research intends to derive an answer that although both China and Japan focus on older adults’ caring issues, the way that these two countries choose to manage and deal with them are very different compared to each other, such as the differentiation of execution process, involving of the third-party companies, challenges bring by different cultural contexts and societal atmospheres. Overall, China’s decision-making process prefers to be centric and parental, whereas Japan is keen to decentralization and privatization.
