Abstract

This paper evaluates friendships between humans and AIs from an ethical perspective. I first explore what friendship is and why it is valuable. Then I discuss the unique features of friendships between humans and AIs and their likely moral effects and implications. I argue that we have reasons to be worried about the long-term effects of friendships between humans and AIs from an ethical perspective.
