Based on panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2010 to 2022, this paper studies the influence of official promotion pressure on green innovation by using Two-way Fixed Effects, further discusses the moderating effect of official heterogeneity between them, and analyzes heterogeneity from two aspects of economic development level and urbanization level. The results show that promotion pressure has significant inhibitory effect on green innovation. Robustness test proves the reliability of the results. Based on the analysis of official heterogeneity, it is found that the increase of official tenure is beneficial to weaken the inhibition effect of promotion pressure on green innovation, but the negative relationship between promotion pressure and green innovation is positively moderated by official education. Heterogeneity analysis results show that promotion pressure of officials in economically underdeveloped areas and highly urbanized areas has a more significant inhibitory effect on green innovation. Based on the above conclusions, it is suggested to improve the scientificity of official assessment indicators and improve relevant guidance and support policies, so as to help green innovation and high quality development.
