Abstract

As research on music teaching methodologies continues to deepen, collaborative learning has gradually gained recognition among a broad range of scholars. Most existing studies focus solely on the positive impacts of collaborative learning in music education, while lacking cross-national comparisons and adequate discussion of its negative impacts and improvement strategies. Employing a questionnaire survey method and incorporating personal experience, this paper summarizes the positive and negative impacts of collaborative learning on music education across different countries and proposes methods to mitigate the negative impacts. The study finds that collaborative learning helps develop communication skills and deepens musical understanding. However, it also encounters negative influences such as inaccurate peer perspectives and insufficient capacity for group-based collaborative learning. In response to these drawbacks, the study proposes countermeasures including enhanced peer communication and active supervision by instructors. This research deepens the understanding of collaborative learning as a teaching approach and fills a gap in the literature concerning methods to alleviate its negative impacts.
