Abstract

The visual effects of a design are influenced not only by objective factors such as texture and color, but also by subjective factors of the viewer, such as familiarity and taste. Gombrich identifies some explanations from the internal mechanisms of vision to illustrate the basic responses of vision to patterns (forms). He combines the design principle of 'framing and filling' with the notion of the limited perceptual capacity of the visual center to analyze the mechanism of visual perception, and also demonstrates the role of vague vision in forming the overall impression of patterns. In addition, through the study of the sense of order, interruption mechanisms, redundancy, and continuity mechanisms, he analyzes how visual mechanisms affect the impact of patterns. These theories provide new perspectives for understanding the creation and appreciation of visual art and offer theoretical guidance for the practice of pattern design and decorative art.
