Abstract

With the deepening of globalization and the rapid development of the new media industry, cross-cultural media interactions have become increasingly frequent. Modern media professionals are required not only to master basic English skills, but also to develop qualified intercultural awareness and the ability to interpret cultural differences embedded in media texts. For students enrolled in media-related programs at communication universities, college English teaching should move beyond exam-oriented training and integrate language instruction closely with their professional features. It is necessary to incorporate intercultural thinking, media case analysis and cross-cultural expression practice into regular English classroom teaching. This study takes Liaoning Communication University as the research background and adopts questionnaire surveys, a one-semester comparative teaching experiment, and semi-structured student interviews as major research methods. It analyzes the current situation and existing deficiencies of intercultural communication cultivation within college English courses for media majors, and puts forward targeted and operable teaching strategies suitable for local media colleges. The results reveal that the integrated teaching mode embedded with intercultural elements can effectively enhance students’ sensitivity to cultural differences, comprehension of media-based cultural texts, and willingness to express personal viewpoints in cross-cultural English scenarios. This research summarizes practical teaching approaches that match the learning characteristics and talent training objectives of media undergraduates. It can provide practical references for college English teaching reform in similar communication universities, and also offer a real classroom case for the integration of intercultural communication education and media-oriented English instruction.
