Abstract

Breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease in which a variety of genetic and environmental factors are involved. Among them, adenosine deaminase acting on RNA 1 (ADAR1) and Z-DNA binding protein 1 (ZBP1) are the factors that have opposite functions in the process of regulating cell viability as well as inflammatory and immunity. Recently, the two factors have been proved to act as a key player in caspase-8-dependent PANotosis and IFN-γ-dependent immunoregulation in the development of most types of cancers.  In this review, we discuss the basic functions of ADAR1 and ZBP1 as well as the interactions between them in regulating innate immune responses in breast cancer therapeutics.
