Chronic pain is a subjective experience that involves not only nociception but also emotional, cognitive, and social factors. Chronic pain affects almost every aspect of daily life. However, the mechanism of chronic pain is extremely complicated. Clinically, there is still a lack of safe and effective treatment methods for chronic pain, and its treatment has always been an important topic in the medical field. In recent years, more and more studies have shown that lidocaine may be an excellent analgesic. It can be used alone as a patch for external use, as a supplement to systemic medication methods, and also for optimizing the treatment of chronic pain and multimodal analgesia. This article reviews the latest research progress of lidocaine in the treatment of chronic pain.
