Review on Phytochemistry, Pharmacological Action and Clinical Application of Rhizoma Phragmitis

Rhizoma phragmitis (RP) is Phragmites communis Trin. fresh or dried root, which is also widely used in daily life. In China, eating Rhizoma Phragmitis has been around for 2000 years, and there are numerous traditional dietary therapy methods. Studies have shown that Rhizoma Phragmitis contains a variety of active ingredients, including polysaccharides, organic acids, flavonoids, steroids, phenylpropanoids, terpenoids, alkaloids, as well as various vitamins and trace elements. Pharmacological studies have shown that the rhizoma has antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and other activities. Additionally, it has been found to have protective effects on kidney and liver. This review aims to systematically summarize the phytochemistry, pharmacology, traditional applications, and folk diet therapy methods of rhizoma, laying the foundation for further research.
