Regional digital economy development and enterprise ESG performance —— comes from the empirical analysis of the panel data of Chinese A-share listed companies

Abstract

With the development of China's digital economy, enterprise ESG performance has a new development direction and source of power. This paper explores the impact of the booming development of digital economy on the ESG performance of micro enterprises. This paper takes the panel of a-share listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen from 2008 to 2020 as the original sample. This paper empirically tests the influence effect and mechanism of digital transformation on the ESG performance of enterprises under the background of digital economy. The study found that the development of digital economy has a significant promoting and positive impact on the ESG performance of enterprises. Further mechanism analysis found that the digital economy mainly promotes ESG performance by improving the green innovation performance of enterprises and total factor productivity. From the perspective of digital economy development background, this paper provides theoretical support and empirical basis for improving the ESG performance of Chinese enterprises and promoting the development path of ESG in China.
