Abstract

The rapid global spread of COVID-19 has impacted 114 countries across six continents, significantly affecting economic growth, health security, and employment. This study examines the pandemic's worldwide trends and its profound implications for China's economy, particularly the unemployment rate. The analysis highlights how strict containment measures, such as social isolation and lockdowns, effectively reduced infection rates but led to economic disruptions, with the aviation, tourism, and hospitality sectors experiencing severe job losses. Labor mobility restrictions and uncertain economic conditions further hindered business operations and investments. The paper provides insights into the pandemic’s short- and long-term effects on China's labor market and economic landscape, offering strategic policy recommendations for recovery and resilience in the face of future challenges. This research aims to inform policymakers and stakeholders on developing more effective responses to similar crises.
