Understanding and Addressing the Impact of Industrial and Nuclear Wastewater on Marine Ecosystems

Industrial and nuclear wastewater profoundly impact Marine ecosystems, an important part of global biodiversity and ecological stability. In order to realize the complexity of energy production and consumption, this paper aims to understand the ways in which these pollutants interact and change with the marine environment. Then, this paper focuses on analyzing the mechanisms of pollutant diffusion, evaluating the effectiveness of current mitigation strategies, and developing sustainable management pathways. This paper concluded that industrial and nuclear wastewater enter the marine ecosystem through direct discharge, runoff and atmospheric sedimentation, producing chain effects on marine plants and animals. Wastewater treatment technologies include innovative methods including nanotechnology, membrane filtration and bioaugmentation that improve the efficiency and cost effectiveness of pollution control. However, wastewater management faces diverse and complex challenges, including the diversity of pollutants, financial and technical constraints, and emerging pollutants. Emerging wastewater treatment technologies and circular economy principles hold promise for improving treatment efficiency, reducing energy consumption, and minimizing environmental impacts. The study presented in this paper can deepen the understanding of the complex interactions between human activities and the marine environment, facilitating informed decision-making and collaborative efforts to achieve sustainable environmental management.
