Abstract

As a core component of the corporate governance structure, the board of directors is crucial to whether a company can make correct decisions, achieve effective risk management, and create value in a complex and ever-changing market environment. This paper takes A-share listed companies from 2012 to 2022 as research samples and conducts an empirical analysis on board composition. It is found that the diversification of the characteristics of board composition in listed companies is conducive to improving corporate performance, among which the diversification of age groups and financial backgrounds of the board have the most significant positive impact on corporate performance. The research findings of this paper provide theoretical and empirical evidence for optimizing board composition and enhancing the performance of listed companies.
