Abstract

This translation practice report selects a short humorous novel: This May Hurt a Little as the translation material and case selection scope. This translation practice report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter introduces the background and significance of the translation task. Chapter Two introduces the source text and the author. The third chapter introduces the translation process in detail. Before translation, the translator carefully studied the original text and determined the translation tools and translation theories, namely Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation. The fourth chapter, under the guidance of semantic translation and communicative translation, carries out specific case analysis from three levels : vocabulary, syntax and discourse. The last chapter summarizes the experience and gains of the translation practice.
