Abstract

With the rapid development of urbanization, traffic congestion has become an increasingly serious issue, posing significant challenges to urban mobility and environmental sustainability. To improve traffic efficiency and alleviate transportation strain, this paper explores the adaptive control traffic light system, a promising solution leveraging advanced technologies. The paper begins by introducing the basic principles and technical features of adaptive traffic light control systems, which adjust signal timings based on real-time traffic conditions. These systems utilize a range of technologies, including sensors, cameras, and communication networks, to gather data on traffic flow, vehicle speeds, and congestion levels. It then focuses on identifying the types of exploitable data that need to be collected, such as vehicle counts, waiting times at intersections, and pedestrian movements. It outlines the future work required to address these challenges, such as developing more robust data collection methods, improving algorithmic efficiency, and enhancing the interoperability of various system components. Finally, the paper concludes by summarizing the findings and emphasizing the potential benefits of implementing adaptive traffic light control systems in urban environments.
