Abstract

This study investigates the mechanical and wear behavior of self-lubricating mixed metal matrix composites (MMCs) by focusing on magnesium reinforced with graphene nanoparticles (GNP) and silicon carbide (SiC). The aim of this study was to explore the potential of magnesium as a base material for advanced applications due to its lightweight and strength properties, while combining GNP for improved lubrication and SiC for increased mechanical strength. Samples were prepared and analyzed using powder metallurgy techniques and the results showed that while GNP improves self-lubrication, it reduces the strength of the material. However, the addition of SiC counteracts this effect and improves the hardness and overall mechanical properties of the composite. This study provides insights into the future development of lightweight, durable and self-lubricating materials for the automotive and aerospace industries.
