As concerns about greenhouse gas emissions and noise pollution grow, the aviation industry is increasingly turning to electric propulsion for cleaner, quieter flight. Electric propulsion offers lower emissions and reduced noise, but significant challenges remain, particularly in materials science. This paper reviews key advancements in electric motor materials for aviation, focusing on high power density, efficient thermal management, mechanical strength, and electrical conductivity. Innovations such as high magnetic saturation materials, nanomaterials like graphene and carbon nanotubes, and advanced composites are explored for their potential to improve motor efficiency and durability. The role of additive manufacturing in producing lightweight, optimized components and the use of advanced coatings for enhanced performance are also discussed. Challenges such as reliance on rare earth materials and environmental sustainability are considered, emphasizing the need for alternative materials and improved recycling. Future research should focus on material innovations that enhance electric aviation's performance while aligning with environmental goals.
