Research on Cultural Capital Empowering International Education and Cross-border Humanistic Exchange in the Digital Era

Abstract

With the advent of the digital age, cultural capital is increasingly being produced, disseminated and recognised on online platforms, digital infrastructure and networked learning environments. Therefore, significant changes have occurred in international education and cross-border humanistic exchange, and both are now more reliant on digital communication and knowledge sharing. Culture can also support international education through old ways or new ones; these include promoting participation, fostering cross-cultural understanding, and cultivating new forms of cross-border academic and cultural cooperation. It is proposed that, at present, digital cultural capital is an important determining factor in whether individuals can participate in global opportunities, how learners engage in international educational activities, and whether such participation is inclusive or exclusive. Based on a conceptual analysis of classical sociology and recent studies in higher education, this paper proposes that digital technology can promote the democratization of international education only when institutions actively promote equitable access, multilingual communication, digital literacy and dialogic intercultural learning. Based on the above analysis, it is proposed that cultural capital in the digital age should be viewed as a type of educational resource that can be redistributed through changes in curriculum and policy, as well as through institutional reforms.
