Research of Applying Text Linguistics to College English Reading Teaching

On the basis of relevant theoretical foundations of text linguistics including key contributions from Harris, Halliday, Beaugrande and Dresler, this paper systematically explores the application of text linguistics in college English reading teaching and discusses the necessity and advantages of text-oriented reading teaching approaches. By applying specific text case, the article proposes practical teaching strategies including reconstructing text structure, analyzing cohesive devices, interpreting coherence and understanding register. Research concludes that text linguistics effectively enhances college English reading teaching quality and college students’ reading comprehension competence.
