Abstract

As an important part of Chinese culture, the translation of Minnan culture into foreign languages is of great significance for people all over the world to understand China’s traditional culture. Taking the Chinese-English translation of Minnan culture as an example, this paper discusses the problems existing in the foreign translation of Minnan culture and the countermeasures. Bassnett’s cultural translation theory provides theoretical guidance for this paper, emphasizing that translation is not only the transformation of language, but also the transmission and exchange of cultural information. This paper first introduces Bassnett’s cultural translation theory, then analyzes the characteristics of Minnan culture and the challenges it faces in foreign translation, and then puts forward various translation methods of Minnan culture, including transliteration with annotations, literal translation with annotations, free translation with annotations etc. Finally, it looks forward to the development prospect of Minnan culture foreign translation and puts forward suggestions for future research.
