Abstract

Labor education plays a crucial role in the holistic development of college students, equipping them with practical skills, a strong work ethic, and social responsibility. However, this study reveals significant challenges in the current labor education system in universities in Jiangsu Province. The research, employing a quantitative approach, surveyed students across selected universities, assessing their perceptions of labor education opportunities, curriculum effectiveness, participation levels, and available resources. Findings indicate that students generally perceive labor education as insufficient in preparing them for the workforce, with concerns about curriculum alignment, career support, and practical training. Despite moderate support for career-focused and hands-on experiences, innovation and entrepreneurship education received low recognition. Additionally, disparities in career counseling and resource allocation further hinder labor education’s effectiveness. To address these issues, the study recommends strengthening university-industry collaboration, enhancing career counseling services, integrating skill-based learning, and improving faculty training. Furthermore, efforts should be made to align labor education with students’ career aspirations and provide more structured feedback mechanisms. The study underscores the necessity of a more structured and practical labor education system to meet students' evolving needs and improve their career readiness. The findings contribute valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and institutions aiming to enhance labor education policies and practices. By implementing these strategic improvements, universities in Jiangsu Province can foster a more effective labor education framework, ensuring students are better prepared for future career challenges.
