Abstract

The synonymous compound word "Xuexi" has not been identified as a clutch word, but from the current situation of its use and the definition standard of clutch words, it can be able to be considered as a clutch word. The generation of "Xuexi" was first the combination of "Xue" and "Xi" of free morphemes, and then began the lexicalization process in modern times. There are probably three bases: from "Xuexi" to modern times, it became an adhesive morpheme, and the meaning of "Xuexi" was expressed by words rather than phrases composed of free morphemes. According to the specific indicators for judging phrases and words, "Xuexi" is not a word until modern times; The change of order form "Xuexi" of "Xuexi" gradually disappeared after modern times, and the disappearance of the change of order form shows that it has solidified into a word. The mechanism of the generation of clutch words 'Xuexi' is the joint result of monosyllabic action and the analogy of the V-O structure: with the premise that 'Xi' becomes an adhesive morpheme, 'XueXi' begins to de-lexicalize under the action of the monosyllabic form of commonly used verbs 'Xue', and expands and transforms under the analogy of the strong verb object structure, ultimately becoming clutch words.
